Artist and Illustrator based in West Dorset
For me sketching and painting is about capturing a moment in time and recording it. Inspiration can come from anywhere, a view on a day out or maybe a handsome building, backs of people deep in conversation, tiny wild flowers peeking thorough the grass or butterflies dancing on the breeze. I simply record the things I notice that please me or bring me joy.
Sketches of the Dorset Coast, From Studland to Lyme Regis
Sketches of the Dorset Coast is a record of my journey along Dorset’s beautiful coast from Studland to Lyme Regis capturing the local landmarks, beaches, towns, villages and in watercolour sketches and drawings.
My 48 page sketchbook catalogues a summer of drawing and sketching, from the gentle sandy bays at Studland and Swanage, to the historic ruins of Corfe Castle and the market town of Wareham with its river. Onto spectacular Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, past Kimmeridge with its iconic tower to bustling Weymouth and Portland Bill and finally coming back via Bridport to the fossil seekers paradise of Charmouth and Lyme Regis the jewel on Dorset’s coast.
Whether you’re an art lover who’s visited the area, looking for an arty gift or simply a memento or a reminder of a summer holiday or day out in Dorset. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did making it and it has the same effect and simply brings you joy.

Biography
Hello, I am Lisa an Artist and Illustrator living in West Dorset.
For me sketching and painting is about capturing a moment in time. My sketchbooks record life as it happens, conversations, observations and inspirations, simply recording those moments or things that made you smile or brought you joy.
My love of sketching began 20 years ago when my mother-in-law bought me a book of sketches by Sue Lewington. In this book Sue drew the things that interested her or caught her eye. Pots of flowers, doors or even washing on a line, it was this realisation that it was ok to just draw what you personally liked, which inspired me to start drawing the things that interested me and instilled my love of sketching.
When working in my sketchbooks, I loosely sketch out the outlines in pencil before inking then add watercolour. Inspiration can come from anywhere, a handsome building, the backs of people sat on a bench chatting, to tiny wild flowers or butterflies dancing in the breeze or simply just places visited.
When you sketch particularly outside the memories are heightened, you simply notice and remember more. Looking at my sketchbooks, I am transported back to sights and sounds of that day, things that I have forgotten are refreshed, sketching allows me to relive memories in a way that a photo never can.
Being creative and working with our hands is good for us, whether that’s painting or drawing, writing, gardening or cooking. I hope that my book encourages someone to pick up a pen or pencil and capture what uniquely inspires them.
